Sorry I won’t make the 55th party but hope to make the 60th. It’s fun to read what everyone has been doing with their lives. Our Buchtel teachers would be very proud of us. But we sure have changed a lot. I remember a lot of the names but I wouldn’t recognize very many of my classmates today if we met on the street. Vice-versa no doubt.

I am still spending the winters in Tokyo, May-June in Europe most years and the summers in Ohio. I still do a little consulting for a couple of clients, mostly so I don’t have to admit to myself or others that I’m old enough to be retired.

My story in a nutshell: A year after graduation, I found myself in the Air Force working as a Russian linguist. After discharge, I completed my BA at OSU, got a master’s degree in East Asian Studies at Harvard, and spent two and a half years doing post-graduate work at Tokyo University. My career since then has revolved around US-Japan business. After 11 years in Tokyo, I moved back to Connecticut where I lived for the next 20 years, making the awful commute into Manhattan for too many years and then starting my own consulting business. I returned to Ohio about 10 years ago. I love it here in western Medina where I am surrounded by 8 acres of trees, allowing me to decompress after apartment life in Tokyo. In high school, we thought Medina was a tiny hick town in the middle of nowhere. It has changed a lot since then.

The picture shows me and my wife Naoko on a typical small-town street in southern France in June 2016.
